Sch., on the reverse fragment of a label with date 1910. - The painting was probably made in 1910, when Shibnev returned from the St. Petersburg academy to his home town Mariupol. - Provenance: Bought by the father's consignor in Moscow in the 1950s. - Russian painter from a family of artists. S. studied 1903-10 at the St. Petersburg academy under P. P. Chistyakov and I. E. Repin. In 1906 he travelled France, a journey that had an important artistical impact.
