T. studied 1960-61 at the Düsseldorf Werkkunstschule, thereafter until 1966 at the local academy, among others as master student of Joseph Beuys. Since 1981 he was professor in Düsseldorf, Berlin and Karlsruhe. In 1983 he won the Villa Romana Price. T. is one of the leading figurative painters of his generation.
