1967, silk screen in colours/cardboard, 61,5 x 61,5 cm, lo. le. titled a. num. I/VI, unframed. - German-American painter, graphic artist, designer a. teacher. A. was teacher before studying at the Königliche Kunstschule in Berlin 1913-15. 1919-23 he studied in Munich a. at the Bauhaus in Weimar. After graduating there he became head of the glass painting department; in 1928 he also took over the furniture class from Marcel Breuer. After the Bauhaus was closed down by the Nazis he emigrated to the USA where he became one of the most important teachers of European art. Among his pupils were R. Rauschenberg, W. de Kooning a. R. Motherwell.
