Probably before 1829, oil/canvas, 36,5 x 45 cm, relined. - Expertise: We are grateful to Dr. Markus Bertsch, Kunsthalle Hamburg, for kindly confirming the authenticity. - Provenance: Bruun-Rasmussen, Copenhagen, 12th September 2007, lot no. 1134. There the painting was identified as work by Eckersberg with a drawing by Eckersberg that had been in the possession of the Norwegian painter Johan Christian Dahl. - The most important Danish painter of his time, father of the Golden Age of painting of his country. E. was taught painting in the studio of J. Jessen in Abenraa, 1804-1810 he studied at the Copenhagen academy, where he won a gold medal as early as 1809. Thereafter he continued his studies in the studio of J. L. David in Paris as well as in Rome. In 1818 he became professor of the Copenhagen academy, 1827-29 he was it's director. Mus.: London (Nat.
