G. studied 1943-44 at the Meisterschule für Kunsthandwerk in Berlin, 1946-48 under W. Baumeister at the Stuttgart academy, thereafter until 1955 under K. Schmidt-Rottluff in Berlin. In 1962 he won the Villa Romana Prize.
