Oil/canvas, 124,5 x 103 cm, rest., relined. - Albrecht became a cleric before marrying and becoming regent of the Spanish Netherlands in 1599. He was one of the most important patrons of art in that region, one of his protegés was Rubens. Very similar portraits were painted by Rubens and by Otto van Veen, showing the regent in the same magnificent harness, worn on the occasions of his ceremonial entries to the Spanish Netherlands in 1599 and 1600. - Flemish painter, one of the most important artists of all times. R. was taught painting in the studio of T. Verhaecht since 1592, in 1598 he was enrolled in the Antwerp painter's guild. He worked in many towns in Italy a.
