Gouache, 19,5 x 33,5 cm, lo. le. sign. a. dat. C. Saltzmann 1908, matted a. framed under glass, uninspected out of frame. - German marine painter. S. was taught painting by H. Eschke 1868-71. He accompanied prince Heinrich on his world tour 1878-80 a. was also one of emporer Wilhelm's favourite marine painter; S. was with the emporer on his journeys many times. In 1896 he became professor for marine painting at the Berlin academy.
