Oil/wood, 20,5 x 44,5 cm, lo. ri. sign. A. Lier. - Provenance: From the property of the painter Hermann Baisch; thence by descent. - German landscape a. figure painter. L. began studying architecture under G. Semper in Dresden in 1844. Since 1849 he studied painting at the Munich academy under A. Lier. In 1861 he travelled to Paris for the first time, where he later worked in the ambient of the school of Barbizon. Since 1869 he taught landscape painting at the Munich academy, among his pupils were H. Baisch a. G. Schönleber.
