Tibet, 18th/19th cent. Gilt and partly brown patinated bronze, inset with gems. Standing figure of the lotus holding emanation of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of universal compassion. He wears an opulently embroidered dhoti around his hips and a deer coat on his left shoulder. Rich jewels adorn his body and head. Inthe left hand he is holding the attributive lotus flower, the right hand is open showing the abhaya mudra (gesture of dispelling of fear). Mounted to a wooden base. H. 27 cm.
