Lower Rhine, around 1500. Oak, the reverse hollowed-out and closed with a coniferous wood board, without paint. The standing St Margaret holds a book with her right hand, at her feet a drake. Sword lost, min. dam. to base. H. 76 cm. - The legend tells that Margaret was haunted by the devil in the form of a drake in her prison cell. The drake burst in the very moment when Margaret made the sign of the cross. - Prov.: from a private collection in northern Germany.
