J. started his training with private painting lessons, until he joined F. Légers 'Académie Contemporaine' in Paris in 1936. During the German occupation of Denmark he fought with the Danish resistance. In 1948 he was co-founder of the artist's group CoBrA. He exhibited among others at the Documenta II a. III.
