T. studied 1900-03 at the Karlsruhe academy. In 1906 he established an art school in Worpswede. He was co-founder of the 'Neue Scession' in Berlin in 1910, where works of the artist's groups 'Brücke' a. 'Blauer Reiter' were showcased.
