Schilbach, studied at the Düsseldorf academy under W. Schirmer since 1844, travelled widely, among others to Scotland where he painted views of the Highlands for Balmoral Castle on commission of queen Victoria, was member of the Düsseldorf artist's group 'Malkasten', professor at the Düsseldorf academy. - Mus.: Köln (Walraf-Richartz-Mus.), Darmstadt, Hannover, Kiel. - Lit.: Saur, Thieme-Becker, Bénézit.
