Oil/canvas, 82 x 110,5 cm, lo. middle very weak fragment of the signature, some rest., relined. - Flemish-English still life a. animal painter from a family of artists. In 1708 C. moved to England where he developed into the most important painter of flower a. animal pieces besides J. Bogdany. As early as 1711 he became director of the Kneller academy. He was admitted as member of the Antwerp St. Luke's guild in 1713 but soon returned to England where not only but also his designs for textile prints became very popular. - Mus.: Wuppertal (Van-der-Heydt-Mus.), New Haven, Maastricht, Lübeck u.a. - Lit.: Saur, Thieme-Becker, Bénézit.
