Sino-Tibetan, 17th/18th cent. Gilt bronze. Finely modelled and detailed figure of the God of Death in pratyalidhasana standing on a buffalo. Both hands raised, the right hand with a skull sceptre. Around his neck a coiled-up snake and the characteristic chain of skulls. The head with horns and a tiara of skulls. Underneath the buffalo a laying human figure on an oval lotus base. The bottom sealed. H. 17,5 cm. - Prov.: From a private Scandinavian coll. and acquired in Sweden in the 1980s. By repute from the estate of one of the expeditions from Sven Hedin.
