Meissen, around 1750. Design from 1741. Pantalone and Columbine from the Commedia dell'Arte on a circular base. He mocking a chivalric pose and dressed in a rare black coat and red costume. She seated next to him and pertly grabbing his beard. In her right hand a mask as a symbol of comedy and theatre. Crossed swords mark. H. 16 cm. - See: Meister, Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts, Frankfurt/Main 1967, p. 304f. - German porcelain modeller and sculptor, taught by the sculptor Thomae in Dresden, whose baroque influence is especially visible in his animal figures, in 1731 appointed court sculptor by August the Strong, at the same time beginning his work for porcelain manufacture Meissen, which he directs for many years, his works are among the highlights of early European porcelain.
