Meissen, around 1730. In the centre a large painted depiction of a pair of birds on peony flowers. The rim with stargrid border with butterflies and Indian flowers (Indianische Blumen). Crossed swords in u"glaze blue. Diam. 36 cm. Including an almost identical plate (China, around 1700), which was used undoubtedly as the model by the Meissen workshop. Diam. 34. - The comparison of this very rare set must be regarded as lucky chance. The plates demonstrate the cultural transfer of Chinese motifs, which strongly influenced the new art of making porcelain in 18th century"s Europe - first of all the Meissen workshop.
