China, Kangxi-period (1662-1722). Porcelain with softly spotted red-greenish glaze. Compressed circular form on a flat ring stand. The cover with characteristic colouring, running from red to a greenish mushroom brown. Six-character Kangxi-mark. Diam. 8 cm. - These type of cover boxes were once designed for seal paste and belong to the highly celebrated group of scholar"s desk objects. Similar pieces can be found e.g. in the Palace Museum, Beijing. See: Kangxi, Yongzheng, Qianlong. Qing Porcelain from the Palace Museum, Hong Kong 1989, p. 141.
