1901/02, oil/wood, 24,5 x 34 cm, lo. ri. fragment of signature 'e Rego', on the reverse autographed 'La montagne les trois Couronnes' a. 'Le train des mines', min. pigment loss. - Juan San Nicolas Santamaría will include the painting in the catalogue raisonné being prepared. We are grateful for his kind assistance. - Prov.: Solo exhibition in the Galerie Durand-Ruel in Paris in 1902; bought by Erna Rehwoldt before 1934, thence by descent. Erna Rehwoldt was friends with A. Rodin, S. Zweig and E. Verhaeren whose poems she translated into German. - From January 1900 to November 1902 de Regoyos lived and worked in Irún near San Sebastian in the Basque region. - Innovator of Spanish landscape painting, studied at the Madrid academy since 1878, on recommendation of his teacher C. de Haes he changed to Brussels in 1879, where he became pupil of J. Quineaux a. made friends with E. Verhaeren, in 1883 he was co-founder of the avantgardist movement "Les XX", since 1889 he exhibited at the Paris Salon des Indépendants together with Degas, Signac a. Pissarro, later he developed a predilection for the landscape of Spanish Basque region. Departing from naturalism he developed his style to symbolism, impressionism a. pontillism. - Mus.: Madrid (Prado, Mus.
