China, 19th cent. (Qing-dynasty 1644-1911). White porcelain (Blanc-de-Chine). Tall figurine of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra (Puxian) in a flowing robe riding on an elephant. The right hand holding a ruyi-sceptre, the left hand raised for a peaceful gesture (Abhaya mudra). Next to him on the wave-base with lotus-leaves an acolyte, standing on a lotus-flower. Dehua-seal and artist"s mark ("He Chaozong"). Verso a fine fissure to the base. H. 50,5 cm.
