Max Michael 1864, min. pigment loss, min. rest. - The painting at hand is most probably the one mentioned in Boetticher as no. 24. - Figure a. portrait painter, initially trained by G. Hardorff in Hamburg, studied at the Dresden academy under E.J.F. Bendemann since 1841, went to the Frankfurt Städelschule under J. Becker a. thereafter to Paris, where he studied under Th. Couture a. H. Lehmann, travelled to Italy, lived a. worked in Berlin, where he became professor in 1875, numerous award, member of the Naples academy. - Mus.: Hamburg (Kunsthalle), Köln (Wallraf-Richartz-Mus.). - Lit.: Boetticher, Thieme-Becker, Rump.
